Biography

Documentary filmmaker. Investigative reporter. Creative Storyteller. 



Al Briganti is an award winning documentary film maker, broadcast journalist and news executive.  He produced and co-wrote Running for His Life:  The Lawrence Phillips Story currently running on the Showtime networks.  He was the co-executive producer of the acclaimed documentary The Spymasters: CIA in the Crosshairs.  Other feature length credits include a biography of Ted Kennedy, The Last Brother, and Walter Cronkite at 90.

As a news executive at CBS for more than 25 years, Briganti was responsible for the strategic development of new programming for the news division.  He also played a key role with the law department on issues of libel and ethics review.

Briganti was part of the CBS management team that created the long running broadcast 48 Hours where he served as the program’s executive editor.   He was also director of the CBS News investigative unit developing reports for 60 Minutes, The CBS Evening News and Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel.

He was the creator and executive producer of Verdict, a documentary series that aired on CBS, and in the United Kingdom on the BBC.  The series featured unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the legal process.

 His programs won 15 Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards, the Columbia DuPont Award and the Overseas Press Club Award for the best reporting on Latin America in any medium.

Briganti received a B.A. degree in philosophy from St. Joseph’s Seminary.  He holds a Masters in journalism from Columbia University, where he served as an adjunct professor.
